The Hanging Tree
Things go bump in the night in the house next door to two elderly women. Looking out of an upstairs window, one of the women spots a naked person in next door’s garden. Terrified, they ring the police, who make a grisly and bizarre discovery. The neighbour is found dead in what looks like an obviously staged suicide.
Inspector Paul Amos is soon unravelling a web of intrigue surrounding a group of idealistic campaigners who were betrayed from within their own ranks. Is the murder of one of their number connected with a planned reunion to mark the 30th anniversary of an inglorious failure that ended in a disastrous injury to one of the unlucky 13 friends?
It is only when a second murder throws up vital new clues that Amos can solve a puzzle that has festered for many years.
